UNMC Allied Health Kira Assessment at a Glance

Every line is labelled by how well supported it is: stated by the school, reported by applicants, or an Intervly estimate based on what comparable programmes do. Estimates give you a realistic baseline to prepare against, and your invitation email is always the final word.

Video questionsIntervly estimate

Most likely 3 to 6 timed video questions

UNMC Allied Health does not publish a question count we can verify. Most Kira assessments use between three and six video questions, so build your practice around that range and confirm the exact count in your invitation.

Written questionsIntervly estimate

Most likely none, sometimes one short written prompt

Many programs run video only, and those that add writing usually ask for a single timed paragraph. Practise one short written response so it is not a surprise.

Prep timeIntervly estimate

Most likely 30 to 60 seconds per question

Typical Kira prep windows fall between 30 and 60 seconds. Rehearse at 30 seconds so anything longer feels generous.

Answer lengthIntervly estimate

Most likely 1 to 2 minutes per question

Most programs allow one to two minutes per spoken response. If your invitation states a different limit, you can set it in your Kira format settings so practice matches your assessment.

Total sittingIntervly estimate

Most likely 20 to 30 minutes

Including the practice question and setup checks, most candidates finish inside half an hour.

RetakesSchool stated

None, every response is one take

Kira records your first attempt. There is no re-record, which is why the opening ten seconds carry so much weight.

What to Expect in the UNMC Allied Health Kira Assessment

Kira is an asynchronous video assessment. You are shown a question, given a short window to think, and then the camera starts recording on its own. There is no interviewer to read, no retake, and no chance to polish. That combination is what makes it feel harder than a normal interview even when the questions are ordinary.

The college represents 12 programs and more than 15 health professions, and each one selects its own competencies and question styles from a shared Kira menu.

Some programs use Kira as the only interview, others as a first screen or a final round, so check your invitation for where it sits in the process.

Question count and timing are set per program and appear in your Kira invitation.

Because each response is rated on its own, every answer has to be self-contained. Raters do not carry context across your questions, so a story you told in question two does not help you in question five unless you set it up again in a sentence.

The practical implication is simple. Rehearse the mechanics until they stop costing you attention: start speaking within the first two seconds, make your point early, support it with one concrete example, and land a closing line before the timer cuts you off.

What UNMC Allied Health Raters Are Weighing

UNMC Allied Health has not published the question count or timing for its Kira assessment, so prepare for the format rather than a fixed clock: one take per question, a short prep countdown, and independent scoring of each response. What does not change is the competency set reviewers for physician assistant programs score against.

Team-based practice

Your role inside a supervised team

Show you understand collaborative practice rather than framing yourself as the sole decision maker.

Hands-on patient contact

A specific hour of direct patient care

One concrete interaction beats a summary of your total hours.

Timing to rehearse

30 seconds to 5 minutes per answer, none to 2 minutes of prep

This is the range Kira programs use when they do publish it. Practise at both ends so you are not thrown by whichever UNMC Allied Health sets in your invitation.

One take, no retakes

Recording starts automatically when prep ends

There is no re-record button, so rehearse recovering out loud from a stumble rather than starting over.

What UNMC Allied Health Raters Look For

01

Structure under a hard timer

Raters score complete answers. A response that opens with a clear position, gives one specific example, and closes deliberately beats a richer answer that gets cut mid-sentence.

02

Motivation that is specific

Expect at least one question about why this path and why UNMC Allied Health. Generic service language scores flat. Name the experience that actually moved you and what it showed you about the work.

03

Communication on camera

Eye contact with the lens, steady pace, and plain language matter here in a way they do not in writing. Raters are partly judging whether you would be understood by a patient or a colleague.

04

Judgement in messy situations

Scenario questions ask what you would do when a team member, a patient, or a supervisor puts you in a difficult position. Name the issue, weigh the people affected, and commit to a first step.

05

Self-awareness

Questions about failure, feedback, or weakness are rated on honesty and change. An actual moment plus the specific thing you do differently now outperforms any polished non-answer.

06

Written responses

Where a program includes written prompts, the clock is short and the text submits itself. Answer the question directly in the first line rather than building to it.

How to Prepare for the UNMC Allied Health Kira Assessment

  1. 01

    Practise one-take, always

Never re-record in practice. The single most common Kira mistake is rehearsing with retakes and then freezing when the real recording starts with no safety net.

  2. 02

    Rehearse against real timings

Practise across a range of prep and answer lengths, from 15 seconds of prep with a 45 second answer up to 2 minutes of prep with a 5 minute answer, because programs configure Kira differently. Intervly simulations let you set both.

  3. 03

    Fix your first ten seconds

Record yourself and watch only the opening. If it is filler, rebuild it into a direct sentence that answers the question straight away.

  4. 04

Build a bank of six real stories

Conflict, failure, leadership, a patient or client moment, a time you were corrected, and a time you were under real pressure. Almost every Kira question maps onto one of them.

  5. 05

Check your setup before the window

Neutral background, light in front of you, wired connection where possible, and the camera at eye level. Technical problems inside a timed one-take assessment are a self-inflicted score loss.

  6. 06

Do a full practice round in one sitting

Fatigue shows in later answers. Run the full number of questions back to back so your fifth response is as sharp as your first.

What to Know Before Your UNMC Allied Health Kira Assessment

Use these as starting points. The answer to "why this school" has to be yours, so we deliberately do not write it for you.

Read the UNMC Allied Health invitation carefully

The invitation email states your assessment window, the question count, and the timings for your cycle. Those override anything you read elsewhere, including this page.

Complete the Kira practice round

Kira gives you an unlimited practice question before the real assessment. Use it to test your camera and microphone, not to rehearse content.

Do not leave it to the last day

Assessment windows close on a fixed date and technical problems are not usually grounds for an extension. Sitting it early leaves room to contact support if anything fails.

Know who is watching

Responses are reviewed by faculty and admissions raters using structured rubrics, often without the rest of your file in front of them. Assume no prior knowledge of your application.
