What to Expect in the Baylor DPT Kira Assessment
Kira is an asynchronous video assessment. You are shown a question, given a short window to think, and then the camera starts recording on its own. There is no interviewer to read, no retake, and no chance to polish. That combination is what makes it feel harder than a normal interview even when the questions are ordinary.
Baylor uses both timed video and timed written responses inside Kira, so expect to type an answer under a clock as well as speak one.
Questions are randomized between applicants, which means you cannot rely on hearing the prompt in advance from someone who went before you.
Kira practice questions are available before the graded section starts.
Because each response is rated on its own, every answer has to be self-contained. Raters do not carry context across your questions, so a story you told in question two does not help you in question five unless you set it up again in a sentence.
The practical implication is simple. Rehearse the mechanics until they stop costing you attention: start speaking within the first two seconds, make your point early, support it with one concrete example, and land a closing line before the timer cuts you off.

Structure under a hard timer
Raters score complete answers. A response that opens with a clear position, gives one specific example, and closes deliberately beats a richer answer that gets cut mid-sentence.
Motivation that is specific
Expect at least one question about why this path and why Baylor DPT. Generic service language scores flat. Name the experience that actually moved you and what it showed you about the work.
Communication on camera
Eye contact with the lens, steady pace, and plain language matter here in a way they do not in writing. Raters are partly judging whether you would be understood by a patient or a colleague.
Judgement in messy situations
Scenario questions ask what you would do when a team member, a patient, or a supervisor puts you in a difficult position. Name the issue, weigh the people affected, and commit to a first step.
Self-awareness
Questions about failure, feedback, or weakness are rated on honesty and change. An actual moment plus the specific thing you do differently now outperforms any polished non-answer.
Written responses
Where a program includes written prompts, the clock is short and the text submits itself. Answer the question directly in the first line rather than building to it.

Never re-record in practice. The single most common Kira mistake is rehearsing with retakes and then freezing when the real recording starts with no safety net.

Rehearse against real timings
Practise across a range of prep and answer lengths, from 15 seconds of prep with a 45 second answer up to 2 minutes of prep with a 5 minute answer, because programs configure Kira differently. Intervly simulations let you set both.

Record yourself and watch only the opening. If it is filler, rebuild it into a direct sentence that answers the question straight away.

Build a bank of six real stories
Conflict, failure, leadership, a patient or client moment, a time you were corrected, and a time you were under real pressure. Almost every Kira question maps onto one of them.

Check your setup before the window
Neutral background, light in front of you, wired connection where possible, and the camera at eye level. Technical problems inside a timed one-take assessment are a self-inflicted score loss.

Do a full practice round in one sitting
Fatigue shows in later answers. Run the full number of questions back to back so your fifth response is as sharp as your first.
