What to Expect in the NYMC Casper Test

Casper is an open-response situational judgement test. There are no clinical knowledge questions and no right answer waiting to be found. Every scenario is an everyday dilemma involving other people, and the rating is about how you reason through it: who you consider, what you weigh, and what you actually decide.

The assessment runs in two parts. The typed section gives you a scenario and three probe questions inside one timed block of about five minutes, so you cannot spend four minutes perfecting the first answer and leave the other two blank. The video section asks for short spoken responses of roughly a minute each, with only a brief moment to think before recording starts on its own.

Raters see one response at a time and score it independently. That has two consequences most applicants miss. Each answer has to stand alone, because nobody is reading your other answers for context, and a single unfinished response costs you a full rating rather than being averaged away quietly.

Your result is reported to NYMC as a quartile relative to everyone else who tested in your cycle, so the bar moves with the pool. Practising under real timing is the part that actually shifts your quartile, because most applicants lose points to the clock rather than to their judgement.
